JSA/Shadow Casting within Gors Fawr Stone Circle

Full description
Shadow casting at British and Irish stone circles has been noted by several researchers. This article reports some observations made at Gors Fawr, a well-preserved stone circle in the Preseli area of West Wales. The circle appears to have multiple gnomons sited on the circumference, giving rise to varied and complex shadow phenomena. As also seen at shadow-casting stone pairs previously studied by the author in the same area, the activity seems to be concentrated at particular points in the solar year – namely the solstices and equinoxes, with a particular focus on the winter solstice.
