Company Background

Equinox Publishing Ltd is an independent academic publisher founded in London in 2003 by Janet Joyce. (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich> Blackwell Publishing> Pinter Publishers> Continuum > Equinox) and, since mid-2011, based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

We publish journals, textbooks, anthologies, monographs and reference books in the areas of archaeology, cultural history, food studies, the academic study of religion, and music. In 2024 we acquired Marion Boyars Publishers Ltd., including their food history/cookery imprint Prospect Books.

We have an international author base and audience and match this with worldwide marketing and distribution. North America accounts for nearly half our overall business and journals account for 65% of our turnover.

We belong to the Independent Publishers Guild, the UK Serials Interest Group, the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers, Society for Scholarly Publishing and a number of academic learned societies.
