Full description
In 1944, British real- estate magnate Lord Harold Samuel was quoted as saying, “There are three things that matter in property: location, location, location” (Safire 2009). This sentiment can also correlate to the placement of many ancient sites. Location in regard to ancient settlement consists of the following three components: the site has to be positioned on a high place that is easily defensible; it must be situated along a major road system in order to ensure that it can be supplied; and it must be in close proximity to a good source of water.
