Full description

The interview discusses the first 20 years of the Institute of Popular Music (IPM) at the University of Liverpool. The foundation of the IPM is discussed in detail and related to the emerging academic field of popular music studies. The evolution of teaching popular music at the IPM is described from its beginnings as an adjunct to the classical music degree to the development of full courses at undergraduate and MA levels. The interview also considers the archiving role of the IPM and its role as a centre for research, especially relating to Liverpool’s music history and music industry.
