Lambert and Hendricks planned an album of lyricized Count Basie tunes with a choir. Signed by ABC-Paramount, they started recording, but the choir couldn’t swing, so they brought in Annie Ross and multi-tracked their own voices. Sing a Song of Basie was a big hit and the trio became Lambert, Hendricks & Ross.
