In this chapter, Gesshō explains the religion of Shinran Shōnin 親鸞聖人 (1173–1262), that is, the teaching of the Shin Sect, as summarized by one word, “faith,” which is one of the four subjects treated in his principal work known as the Doctrine, Practice, Faith, and Attainment.
