Ramey/H5M, 16. What are the Regional Differences in Hinduism across India?
Full description
Many Hindus subscribe to a common set of beliefs and practices. Most maintain that all living beings have a soul (atman) that reincarnates based on the actions one performs. Serving and cultivating a relationship with the divine becomes one way Hindus hope to transcend the cycle of rebirth (saṃsara) and attain liberation (moksha). These beliefs inform many religious practices that vary according to sectarian tradition, object of devotion, and region. This article introduces two case studies, temple constructions and festival celebrations, to understand differences in Hindu traditions.
