Full description
This chapter discusses the analytical tools that have guided my interpretation of the evolution of a globally accepted body of knowledge on Islam as an inherent part of the global expansion of modern society. I will put forward my theoretical arguments in five steps, related to scholarly debates on globalization, modernity, world society, religion (Islam), and the public sphere. The final pages of this introduction to the chapter will present these steps in a nutshell without going into detailed argumentation and references.
