In discussing the Islamic philosophers’ positions on virtue and governance, this chapter draws attention to the Islamic, Greek, and Persian influences on ethical and political arguments, particularly on Islamic theology. Then follows a discussion of the problem of free will in relation to moral accountability and an exposition of the role of Islamic law and its relationship to conceptions of authority and governance.
