Willet/Geography of Urbanism, 1. Towards Defining Cities in Roman Asia Minor

This chapter sets the stage of the subject, which consists on the one hand of the physical setting of Asia Minor and on the other of the various definitions of cities and theoretical discourses of and approaches to ancient, and more specifically Roman, urbanism. It also deals with the bodies of evidence that area available for this study.
