Full description
To “discriminate” has two meanings in common usage. The first is to make distinctions between things, to recognize differences, to differentiate. The second is to treat people in an oppressive way based on race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, nationality, age, or some other characteristic. When we consider caste discrimination in its literary representations and everyday lived experiences, both of these meanings are operative.
