Since 1973, The Beshara School has organised an annual trip to Turkey that takes place every December, and culminates with the celebration of the ‘nuptial night’ ( ‘urs ) 1 of the mystic and poet Jelâluddîn Rûmî. This chapter describes the experience of the author on one such trip and her observations and field notes resulting from interviews with other participants regarding their purpose in making the trip and their assessment of its "spiritual" importance.
