The aim of this concluding chapter is now to add an “Islamic” perspective to this investigation. So far, I have only hinted at the fact that Muslim intellectuals were an inherent part of this process. On the following pages I shall demonstrate how different generations of Muslim thinkers have been engaged in this increasingly global process of shaping and disseminating a particularly modern image of Islam.
