Welcome to Utopia! Hungry?

Around the turn of the 20th century, feminist writers in Britain and America discovered Utopia – faraway civilizations where political, social, and moral life had been restructured with women at the centre. Cooking and eating, too, were transformed: they lost their power as sources of oppression and ushered women into new relationships with food. A recurring symbol of this new relationship was fruit – the very role it played in Eden, except that this time women were telling the story.
